Hugo Weaving wurde am 4. April 1960 in Nigeria geboren. Im Alter von 16 Jahren zog Hugo dann nach Sidney, wo er auf der „Knox Grammar School“ seinen Abschluss machte. Hugo ist mit Katarina Greenwood verheiratet und hat zwei Kinder, Harry und Holly.

Hugo spielte in vielen Bühnenstücken, aber auch auf der Leinwand war er oft zu sehen. Er spielte in „Ein Schweinchen Namens Babe“, „Proof“ oder auch „Priscilla – Queen of Desert“. Weltberühmt wurde er allerdings erst mit Matrix als Agent Smith an der Seite von Keanu Reeves.

Seine Kollegen bezeichneten Hugo als sehr fröhlichen und witzigen Mann. Es war immer lustig am Set, wenn Hugo dabei war. Auch viel es ihm leicht Elrond zu spielen, da Hugo die Autorität des Elronds bereits zu den Dreh mitbrachte.
