Billy Boyd wurde am 28. August 1968 in Glasgow Schottland geboren.

Billy trat in der Vergangenheit in vielen Fernsehserien auf, wie „Taggart“ oder „Coming Soon“. Auch in einigen Bühnenstücken konnte man ihn schon bewundern. Seinen ersten Film auf der Leinwand hatte er mit „Urban Ghost Story“ im Jahre 1998.

Der Herr der Ringe ist für ihn der erste große Film und vor allem der internationaler Durchbruch gewesen. Jackson entdeckte mit ihm ein großes Schauspiel Talent, mit einem amüsanten Dialekt. Billy ist ein sehr humorvoller und lustiger Hobbit. Vor allem mit Dominic Monaghan freundete er sich sehr eng an und sie trieben so manchen Scherz am Set. Billy ist auch ein begnadeter Musiker. Billy spiel Bass, Schlagzeug und Gitarre und er ist ebenfalls ein guter Sänger. (Was er im dritten Teil des HdR auch beweis, als er in Denethors Halle singt)

Auch Billy trägt das elbische Tatoo. Seine Fans lieben ihn für seine Rolle als Hobbit und für die freundliche und offene Art, mit der er seine Fans behandelt.
